Pregnancy

Step1: Search for a hospital to give birth

Step2 : Check your physical condition before birth and the condition of the fetus at the hospital

Step3 : Submit your pregnancy notification at the ward office or public health center in your area and receive a maternal and child health handbook and prenatal checkup coupon.

The maternal and child health handbook is an important booklet that records your physical condition during pregnancy, your child's physical growth, and vaccinations.

In Japan, we provide maternal and child health handbooks in multiple languages (English, Korean, Chinese, Thai, Tagalog, Portuguese, Indonesian, and Spanish).

Step4 : A prenatal parents’ class held at a local health center or the hospital where you plan to give birth? ? Participate in a parent class (usually free, but conducted in Japanese)

Step5 : Hospitalization and childbirth

Step6 : Please go to your ward office and register your child's birth within 14 days after your child's birth. It is compulsory in Japan to register all children born in Japan. If both parents are foreign nationals, you must register your child at your country's embassy and immigration office within 60 days.

Step7 : When your child is 1 month old, from 3 months to 5 months old, and at 18 months old and 3 years old.

You can receive a free health check for your child.

Step8 : Vaccinations start when the child is 2 months old.

★Childbirth costs: Generally speaking, childbirth costs range from 50,000 yen to 1,000,000 yen, which varies greatly depending on the hospital.

If you have Japanese insurance, you can receive maternity allowance depending on the type of insurance.
