Kindergarden
Differences between kindergartens and three types of nursery schools in Japan
In Japan, there are daycare centers for working parents who have pre-school children from 0 years old. Kindergartens are facilities that focus on education for children between the ages of 3 and 6, and many kindergartens are private schools.
Lunch time varies depending on the kindergarten, but some kindergartens provide school lunches, while others require children to bring their own lunch boxes from home.
A licensed nursery school is a facility that functions as both an education and a nursery school, and is a facility that cares for children regardless of whether their parents have jobs or not.
Fee
Fees are waived for all children between the ages of 3 and 5 who use kindergartens, licensed nursery schools, certified childcare centers, etc. For children between the ages of 0 and 2, usage fees will be waived for households exempt from resident tax.
